Estates Management Cuts Green Ribbon on Arcadia’s Edge in Columbia
Columbia, SC – Arcadia’s Edge is the first Silver Certified apartment community in South Carolina, and one of the first in the nation, to achieve Silver Certification through the National Green Building Standard by the National Association of Homebuilders (NAHB).
According to NAHB research, developments like Arcadia’s Edge add $7 million in income and approximately $700,000 in taxes and other revenue to help spur economic development in the local community. Also, Arcadia’s Edge’s earth-friendly, luxury-home features deliver value to the environment and unique benefits to residents.
“To help protect the environment, we took measures to preserve and enhance Roper Pond and the wetlands,” said Matt Mundy, an associate of Arcadia’s Edge. “We planted Wetland Carpets to help control erosion and weeds and set out Floating Wetlands to absorb nutrients and help reduce the growth of algae in the pond. This sustainable landscaping also helps attract wildlife and beautifies the area while reducing the costs for labor, chemicals, dredging and maintenance.”
To further protect water quality, Baysavers were installed to separate debris and pollutants in storm water before entering waterways. Other environmental green features include natural irrigation and residential gardening

Not only does Arcadia’s Edge bring green benefits to the property, the Silver certified apartment homes also offer a better quality of life to residents through features that provide energy savings and encourage healthier lifestyles.
“Energy-Star certified lights and appliances, including Rinnai tankless natural gas hot water heater, were installed in all the units,” said Teresa Hodge, an Estates Management associate. “That means lower utility bills for residents.”
Other sustainable design features include Low-E windows, Low-VOC paint, and solar powered hot water at the clubhouse. To promote green, healthy living, Arcadia’s Edge is a 100% smoke-free living complex. A recycling center, bike racks, and a transit shelter were built to encourage recycling and alternative transportation.
Each of Arcadia Edge’s 204 units boasts modern designs and details that fit in an organic setting. Over-sized windows provide an abundance of sunshine. Natural materials, such as plank hardwood flooring, granite countertops, and ceramic tile flooring, complete the custom-home atmosphere. A resort style salt water pool, Wi-Fi clubhouse with Cyber Lounge, state-of-the-art fitness center, and outdoor living area give these apartment homes a resort-style feel.
